If you are passionate & love Animals, this would NEVER happen — how could they! —my heart breaks for Doggie Chai — these employees & management and agencies are ALL in the WRONG profession — HOW COULD they! — they LACK soul & morals — they lack rational minds & conscience — they are natural-born KILLERS — they LIKE killing — such people belong in PRISON.
Thanks for exposing this and holding people's feet to the fire.
I learned non -violent ways of dealing with others. Several neighbors have physically ran after me to assault me, one trying to come through my front door. Just some mental health issues that police intervened on.
When you speak up and are visible you will be a target, so brace yourself and go out and work to change things in a non violent manner.
Just caring for cats outside on my own property, made people mad. By sticking with this, the city finally embraced TNR, and
I have embraced the crazy cat lady roll.
Poor Chai....rescues are dumbfounded at the nice dogs they take in or they would have been killed at shelters.
Dear Nathan, l cried as l read your detailed description of Chai’s excruciating murder by evil “criminals”, which is what all management of Columbus “Shelter” and their supportive veterinarians and government dummies are. They should all be convicted of murder and be sentenced to life imprisonment or the same “euthanasia “ procedures that Chai suffered as those “criminals” tortured lovable Chai. Nathan, please use your exceptional legal skills to get “Chai’s Law” enacted in memory of sweetheart Chai. I dedicate my heartfelt wishes to the memory of Chai. May she rest in peace ❤️🙏🐶
I was crying too hard to even finish reading Chai's sad story. May all who inflicted such pain, INCLUDING the family who surrendered her, feel the excruciating pain this poor baby felt.
An idea I have had: perhaps some kind politician could pass legislation to have every state provide FREE spay and neuter services. The savings would be easily seen as cheaper than all the overwhelming and over crowded shelters
Heartsick. I'm no longer on social media, but support your work by subscribing and sharing with those who are....Thank you for all you do. Tragic, challenging, draining work you do, on behalf of innocent, vulnerable, wanting-to-live dogs like Chai, who should have been protected and loved.
I do not know why the county pound who inflicted cruelty cannot be charged with animal abuse and the abusers jailed. Too many pounds are shelters for government sponsored animal abuse and the abusers need to be caged and not let out again. It may be the only pain they ever feel.
First of all Nathan, I'm really tired of having a link sent to me to use to sign on when I am a paying subscriber. I do not want the app on my phone, and I should not be coerced into having it. Yes, it was a sad day for Chai. Everybody let her down. I hope the owners that surrendered her on June 4 watched all three of the videos and saw what Chai went through, what her final minutes were like on that hard shelter floor. She was friendly and innocently compliant, while staff workers whose only mission was to kill her, observed with mild interest. I was surprised to see that one member did her best to comfort Chai, sitting with her while they waited for the drugs to work. Yes, they screwed that up. But I saw more compassion than I expected to see. I did find it odd that when it was time to do the heartstick, two workers walked over, one checking the camera, and crouched over Chai. It appeared as if they were trying to block what was about to happen. Why else would they do that? Chai. I never knew you. It will be hard to forget you.
I wasn’t able to read the whole report that Nathan Winograd wrote, the arrow went so deep. I do absolutely want to hurt those who hurt Chai while understanding there is no way to reach them. They have no heart. I don’t know how one reaches someone without a heart, so conditioned to cruelty it is normalized.
Dr Peck writes about how cultures of cruelty evolve in “The People of the Lie.”
Zimbardo, a social psychologist at Stanford wrote “The Lucifer Effect “ about how cultures normalize cruelty and it becomes a habit.
In the Guardian 2 August 2024 Martin Pollack wrote about “My Father the Nazis” who felt no regrets. No one but Martin felt regret and sadness that his family of origin were unbearably cruel. As child he never knew, but he grieved anyway unable to understand. He documented it but was none the wiser. Where does cruelty come from?
MCAS (Multnomah County Animal Services ) euthanized ( killed) Coyote twice after bringing him back nearly dead to check for a micro chip. Then they killed him for good. Someone noted some dogs were being put into body bags unconscious. The response was don’t worry, they’ll suffocate.
Some say if you don’t read these records every week won’t you be more at peace? Yes, emotionally, but not really. What you don’t know can hurt you. Someone once asked me if a house has 2 doors why don’t you just go out the front door where the pleasantness is ? Why do you go out the back door where harm is? The answer I told her was if we clean up the area around the back door we have 2 doors. As long as Nathan can carry on and others who share this dismal work do carry on, I can too, a terrible fraternity.
I still do not understand why the pound employees and managers who abused Chai and abuse other animals cannot be formally charged with animal abuse. If they want to call animals property then they destroyed county property. That is a crime too.
But there are animal abuse laws on the books in most states. Were a private party to do what these persons ( a misnomer) did then those parties would be charged. Why are they excused because they work for the government ? Why do they get to hide behind a government shield? I don't understand. It leads to a feeling of complete helplessness and sorrow: Allowed just to bear witness. And they should be shamed too...a giant month long bill board in a public space with Chai's picture and where to go for the full story.
We are truly in the End Times when this level of cruelty is inflicted on any defenseless living being. The so called veterinarian will hopefully lose his license, as it is illegal in every state to perform a heart stick on a conscious animal. The cruelty and pain inflicted is beyond anything any creature should experience( the exception should be the thugs who administered this torture). People of this level of depravity should lose their jobs, their homes and bank accounts, their drivers licenses and any and all means to support themselves. The death penalty would be a better option because by stopping these criminals in their tracks and ridding the world of them would begin to drastically reduce the incidence of animal abuse and the progression to harming innocent humans. No one will ever have the backbone to put this into place so I fear that animals have no chance at life anywhere in this God-awful world.
I want to thank everyone who cares about reports of animal cruelty for speaking out because it is disorienting to see cruelty justified or rationalized by local government officials. As a recent example, the Multnomah county, (Multnomah county Oregon), auditor blasted county government for abusing public donations intended for animal care. The county’s response was to deny and rationalize their conduct to save face not animals’ lives. They are still in power. The news article and a response follow. It is hard to break the control of public officials who just don't care but public pressure does it.

I am sorry Ann, but I do not have any control over the platform.
