Someone I know (through their work) recently lost their dog to cardiac arrest. The dog died in his arms. He is hurting. Those of us blessed with dogs understand the deep pain he is in, but somehow, expressions of sorrow and sympathy, even for those of us who have experienced it and as important as they are to convey, do not quite grasp the depths of that suffering; the inability to get an aching heart to rest.
When my so loved Snoop left me forever I thought I was ok after a few weeks. I pulled a table away from the wall while vacuuming and burst into tears.
My partner came into the living room confused. What happened?
I realized that after all of the times that I complained about the shedding and hair everywhere, it was gone. At that moment I have given anything to be cleaning that hair off the floor again.
That was 7 years ago. We have more dogs in our lives now and I love them just as much, but I still cry for and miss those who came before them.
Oh my ... how so so terribly sad -- how well I know and feel this sorrow and despair -- and, as you already stated, cherishing the Present is all we have -- maybe one day, someone will figure out that we do not disappear forever, but we're transported -- we go somewhere else -- in this way, we can still meet -- today, Nathan, you'd be able to meet both Pick-Pick and Top-Top.
Now my eyes are blind with tears.....
Now I will cry...
