Children need to be educated on humanely treating animals. So much is learned early and perpetuated throughout a lifetime for good or bad.

I was heartened when my friends' college age twins came back from a debate camp and had a very smart debate with a speaker I went to hear on a nearby college campus.

Those who advocate for that practice are fools. Unless, those animals receive proper care, and attention, they will revert back to their wild side, because it only takes 2 dogs to have a pack mentality. Then, the same individuals will be complaining about roaming dogs attacking people, and pets.

Adda and his ilk that you reference in your article are IDIOTS. I don’t want to be nice toward cruel, sadistic humans who want to let animals breed indiscriminately so their young die, or want dogs & cats to run loose so they are in danger from sickness as well as people who want to harm them.

Please call Animal Care Services, San Antonio, TX, for the wanton killing of dogs and cats but mostly dogs for CAPACITY! These are all healthy or treatable animals that are rounded up and then if not adopted or rescued, or fostered in three days killed for "capacity" (14 yesterday). Many are puppies. Most are not true strays but just roaming. So they blame the "citizens" to justify the killing. We have a No kill movement here and advocate for the No Kill Equation but are mostly ignored. We need media support locally and nationally to stop the killing. Thanks for all you do but we need help.

Not just San Antonio. Our entire state of Texas is on a killing spree against dogs & cats.

California is worse. I'd like to state this - if I asked you to adopt, or foster, a dog there's a good chance that your response would be - "I have a full house, or can't afford to take in any more dogs". Well, that same philosophy, can be applied to the shelters. They're not on a "killing spree", they are FULL, and have limited RESOURCES, just like you and others. There is just so many animals they can house, and care for. If you want change, then get a ballot question for the 2024 election. Get the politicians to answer, specifically to specific questions, what they would do to make the system better. Shelters have budgets, and the politicians are the ones who can increase that, plus try to improve this dire situation. This can apply nationwide. I'd also like to add, that we have created a society, where people don't want to work, and want something for nothing. Shelters have a problem retaining employees, even with decent pay, and benefits. People are reluctant to do this work. It's a shame, because there are some employees, who really care for the animals, and do a great job. I wish there were more people like that.

Nathan Winograd gas written several articles/books on no-kill solutions including just the past few weeks. I don’t believe the states are implementing his ideas. Why is there still a possibility of transporting animals north to be adopted? From what I read, northern states seem to have laws to decrease unwanted pets, they enforce the laws. Dallas, TX has mandatory spay/neuter laws including microchip and rabies, but IT IS NOT ENFORCED. I think people need to be fined, etc when they indiscriminately breed their pets.

Also, I disagree about people being lazy. I think they want to work for a living wage. There is something wrong when you work 40+ hours week and cannot afford housing and food, utilities.

We have become an oligarchy and the ruling class is obscenely wealthy gazillionires who pay little to nothing in taxes and want to keep the current peasant/serf class down to work and make them more money.

So people & animals suffer for rapacious wealth accumulation.

A "living wage" is different depending on where you live. The politicians pass laws that help them, and their donors (note- how many politicians, who have no business experience, have become millionaires due to insider trading, where they passed laws, and sold or invested in stocks that were affected by those laws, before it became public knowledge). We live in a society, where there is no accountability. Furthermore, some people without degrees, or trade experience, need to start somewhere, and jobs at the bottom of the pay scale, should be places to start, not remain. We have "safety nets" welfare, medicaid, etc. Even, people earning within 200% of the poverty guidelines ($60,000 for a family of 4) can receive benefits (and that doesn't include EIT, lower taxes, child tax credits, etc).

Yes, living wage depends on location but I know too many people in Dallas, TX who work 2-3 jobs and have trouble affording housing. And Texas is notorious for offering few to no social services.

The village dogs that roam in Indonesia (Bali), the Philllipines, etc are often a source of food for the villagers.

Oftentimes, they'll steal a pet dog, from a yard, and kill it for food.
