Dear Nathan, Thank you for your devotion to both human beings and animals in your articulate commentary celebrating the 250th birthday of America. I totally agree with your sentiment that animals are entitled to the same rights and benefits as humans. Animals are Sentient Beings and thus deserve to be treated with the same respect, rights, dignity, and compassion as Human Beings. Nathan, please continue your brilliant legal and heartfelt support of our beloved animals. ❤️🐶😸🐂🐷🐓🐟

Interesting article. Im in New Zealand, which has good basic animal welfare legislation but woeful under-enforcement. New Zealand is a strongly agricultural country and this tends to have the effect of agribusiness-friendly policies and practices dominating. But any international assessmnt of how countries compare in terms of their treatment of animals tends to have a few European countries near the top, China at the bottom, and the U.S. somewhere in the middle at best - is this because (capitalist) business interests (political lobbying and financial influence, public sentiment manipulation) are too powerful?
